Centre Manager - Sophie Abbott
Working with birds of prey.... Sophie Abbott
I began falconry at the age of 12, my experience starting at a local bird of prey centre. After four years of voluntary work, on leaving school I started working full time with birds of prey. This helped me gain experience working with a variety of birds of prey including hawks, falcons, owls, eagles, vultures and even corvids (the crow family).
I hoped to share some of this knowledge with others and therefore embarked on my own project. I now have a great team of birds and I wish to allow others to experience the wonders of birds of prey in their natural environments and demonstrating their natural behaviours and flying ability, which is what I am so passionate about. I have completed Level 3 advanced national certificate in the management of zoo animals working with a large range of exotic animals.
I am also CRB checked, hold a first aid certificate and am hoping to start working with disabled adults and children, holding therapy sessions with the birds and other animals in the future.
Falconer - Mandy Abbott
I started learning the art of falconry seven years ago. I have always loved animals, my main passion being horses, having completed my BHS stage 3 and used to teach adults and children to ride. However once my daughter Sophie became so passionate about her birds I wanted to learn some of the skills myself (and Sophie becoming busy enough to require some help) so it seemed the ideal opportunity to begin. I now own several of my own birds which I have trained myself and are used in some of our experiences. Working with birds of prey is more rewarding than I ever would have imagined.
